Hmmn, yes, well I fainted at work today. Well, it was more of a momentary lapse, but I basically ended up slumped over in the fitting room, sweating, shivering and pale with my head on a box. Not really sure why or how, but it happened last week, can't remember if I put that story up here. Last week work gave me a cabcharge to get home, and the taxi ran out of petrol. I didn't really think that sort of stuff was supposed to happen.

Today I ended up in a wheelchair with two managers debating whether or not they would call the paramedics, while I lay on the floor saying "Don't call an ambulance, just give me sugar" and they ignored me and it was all very ironic because just like last week, I was the first-aid attendant on call. Long story short, I went home and had trouble standing up for a couple of hours but now I feel ok. Bright eyed and bushy tailed for tomorrow's shift. Hoo. Ray.

It was really hot today, and I was trying to write a history essay which is due on Monday and worth 40%. So instead, I watched the Women's Singles Lawn Bowls Grand Prix, followed by the Australia/New Zealand netball second test match, and I made a cake filled with chocolate and nutmeggy goodness.

And then some bastard in this GODDAMN house ate two thirds of it without asking.

You've heard me say it before, and here it comes again: I HATE THIS HOUSE!

An exciting day for wildlife lovers on Armidale's South Hill. Well, more precisely, just my mum, who saw a koala in the gum tree above our mailbox this morning being attacked by magpies. The photo isn't that great, but it's the first time we've had a koala in our garden, usually we only get the more boring creatures: lizards and the occasional feral cat. He looks like a fairly chubbers koala though, so is probably quite well fed.


As a totally unrelated topic, if anyone reading this is an AHS-er, I was trying to remember the entire words to the school song but could only think of them in snippets and am using the song as a form of torture for Scottish Andy.

Armidale, tho far away we will remember,
On the hill, the school where we were young together,

And actually, while I'm reminiscing, here we all are at the Valedictory assembly, Armidale High School 2003. Not really sure how I got the smell of rotten oranges, soy sauce and shaving foam out of my hair in the end, but I know it took more than one wash, thanks Jo.

A dramatic evacuation at uni, I've always wanted to be there for a full scale evacuation, nothing serious mind you, just more interesting than last year when the alarms kept going off in our stats labs in the Red Centre. And today was the day, oh yes it was. I was running late for uni, as usual, but by virtue of the fact that I was really late for one class, I was really early for another and as I walked up to BioSciences a couple of ambulances pulled up and so good looking paramedics started walking around looking important. Then I noticed a couple of HAZMAT units over near the entrance of Wallace Wurth and realised they were evacuating Wurth. There seemed to still be people coming and going from BioSci so I went in and caught the lift up to my lab, at this stage the alarms weren't going off. So I go into the lab, and John's the only person in there and I ask him why they're evacuating the building. He thought that they had the wrong wing because he heard that someone had capped a bottle out of the fume cupboard in the other wing of BioSci and the fumes made people sick and they were worried it was a gas leak. Never mind, he said, get your stuff out. About five minutes later he came back and told the three people that were now in the room that we had to leave, and what do you know, there's all these firemen stalking around the corridors.

Long story short, they cleared one floor at a time, which was about 400 people and gradually made us move away from the building, but uni students that we are, and scientists at that, everyone wanted to mill around and check out the action. There was, after all, no smoke coming out of the building. By then the police had shown up and they started yelling at us to move back, and I guess because they carry guns and can arrest you, people started moving back. While all this was going on the fire guys were suiting up in biohazard HAZMAT gear to go and clear the building and a TV news crew and other assorted journalists (inclusing a photographer wearing a flak jacket that said "MEDIA", snigger) had begun to gather. Around 11.30 I got bored and told John I was going home since clearly it was going to take ages to clear the building and we'd taken enough "I was part of the trauma" first person photos with Pete's camera phone to keep me happy.

Fully dramatic.

And so, another pair of the seemingly random happenings in my life have converged. "Random?" I hear you say? Well..actually, I was trying to go all philosophical and deep, but best just get on with the story.

The hot guy who I sat next to on the plane last week did seem to be familiar somehow, and now I've worked out why he kept staring at me in the airport: yesterday at work, guess who I saw walk past our counter? Yes, and now that I think about it, I have served him on a number of occasions; he has good taste in business shirts and is gay. And my world gets smaller again.

I hit my head again this week, in almost exactly the same spot as last week, in almost exactly the same manner as last week. Except that this time, my bedroom door was the offender and I didn't hit it as hard. Then last night when I came home, I tried to make it to my room without turning any lights on (don't know why, didn't really think about it) and overshot the mark and ended up walking into the wall. So, I almost did the same injury a third time (luckily no one was home to laugh at me do it). Is brain-cell loss cumulative?

I'm thinking I want to walk up to Coles and buy some celery. I can't remember ever really liking celery particularly, but it just seems like a good thing to eat, maybe with peanut butter. I could keep working on my genetics poster, but no, celery it is.
